How do I brush my teeth? How long should I brush?
Brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush that fits comfortably in your mouth. Position the brush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle, short back-and-forth strokes across each tooth. Clean the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces of all teeth. For the inner surfaces of your front teeth, hold the brush vertically and use several up-and-down strokes. Remember to brush your tongue as well to eliminate bacteria and maintain fresh breath. What can I expect during a dental checkup?
During your checkup, the dentist or hygienist will review your recent medical history and examine your mouth to determine if x-rays are necessary. Based on your treatment needs, the hygienist may use specialized instruments to assess your gums for signs of gum disease. Your dentist will evaluate your overall oral health and perform an oral cancer screening, which includes examining your tongue with gauze, inspecting your entire mouth, and palpating your jaw and neck. How do I treat a toothache?
Begin by rinsing your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Use dental floss carefully to remove any food particles lodged between your teeth. Avoid placing aspirin directly on your tooth or gums, as this can burn the gum tissue. If your pain continues, please contact Chad D. Spiva, DDS for assistance.
